AeroGrow International, Inc. develops, markets, and distributes advanced indoor aeroponic gardening systems designed and priced to appeal to the consumer gardening, cooking and small indoor appliance markets worldwide. As a small and growing company based in Boulder, our internship program offers first hand work experience, exposure to business operations and training.
Internship Program Summary:
This intern will be working on product design. The intern will work with the head of product development (currently the EVP) to advance 3D renderings of potential products, and enhancements to existing products. The intern will meet with the EVP 1-2 times per week for about ½ hour each. Design objectives will be set at each meeting. At each meeting there will be discussion of the new designs, set refined design objectives and to schedule the next meeting to review. The intern will perform work onsite with the potential work from home (if necessary) to advance the design objectives between meetings.
The intern would learn how to adapt design to business and manufacturing constraints, and get an inside seat into rapid prototyping and development.
Program outline, tasks and responsibilities:
1) Research and Analysis – Research new technology and innovation on ideas for new product and design. Learn and understand science of lights, nutrients, etc., and be able to then make recommendations for AeroGarden integration. Analyze market and competitive conditions. The intern will learn and use Microsoft Excel at a high level (formula creation, Pivot Tables, etc.).
2) Product Design and Prototypes – Come up with new product ideas and improvements. Develop power points for outlining and proposing of new product ideas and improvements. Work with graphics/designers to assist in conceptualizing/refining new products. Use of graphic and design software.
3) Testing and Business Solutions – Extensive prototyping and "tinkering" – will be able to drill, screw and improvise. Test material and samples for quality and cost measurements. Learn about cost analysis and manufacturing constrains. Test product concepts/features via online services like survey monkey.
To qualify for this internship opportunity with AeroGrow International Inc. the intern will be enrolled at a college or university, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Business, Business Management, Business Administration or other related field. The student intern will also be in good standing with the school and maintain and 3.0 GPA or above.
This is a paid internship. Internship programs are temporary and does not guarantee direct hire to regular full or part time employment status.
